Establishing Context

If one places photo paper in the sun, it will darken but won't create any pictures. The title of this work means “without images”. I made the work by putting photo paper in the sun. But the title also alludes to a famous Western play depicting death as the end of life, when one is left “without nothing”. But even after death, you can remember someone through a photo. An image can fix a person’s identity, like a photo ID. The photo ID can affect how we perceive our age. I’m studying how society sorts people by age. Yet once our photo ID becomes blank, it makes any sorting impossible. I put the photo paper on a red carpet, which can highlight famous identities such as actors.
